Aaron Donald reacted to the Rams’ release of Todd Gurley with a single, furious emoji

The Los Angeles Rams had tried — unsuccessfully — to move running back Todd Gurley before $10.5 million became fully guaranteed on his contract. So, on Thursday, they made a decision that would been preposterous two years ago.

The Rams released Gurley before the contract deadline, freeing the running back to sign with any team that offers him.

Back in 2018 — and coming off a 1,305-yard, 13-touchdown (plus, six receiving touchdowns) season — Gurley signed a four-year, $57.5 million extension with the Rams. But with injury issues and on-field declines raising concerns for the Rams, they decided to part ways with the star running back.

And, well, Aaron Donald wasn’t happy.

Immediately after the NFL Twitter account announced the roster move, Donald responded to the tweet with an angry, cursing emoji.

Gurley struggled last season, particularly in yards per carry, but he’s still 25 years old. He shouldn’t be considered washed quite yet. Parting ways with a young star doesn’t send the right message to key players like Donald, who is under contract through 2024.

It could get awkward in L.A.
