Aaron Donald leads all DTs in average sack time since 2016

No player in the NFL was double-teamed more than Aaron Donald last season, and yet he still led the league in sacks with 20.5. That was also a single-season record for a defensive tackle, which puts into perspective just how good he was in 2018.

Even more impressively, Donald gets to the quarterback faster than any other interior defender in the NFL. Defensive tackles don’t have the speed or quickness of edge rushers, and yet Donald still gets to the quarterback remarkably fast.

Since 2016, he blows away the competition with an average time to sack of 3.73 seconds – two-tenths of a second faster than any other defensive tackle.

Last season was especially good for Donald in that department. He was the best player at any position when it came to average sack time, beating out quicker edge rushers.

Donald averaged 3.6 seconds per sack in 2018, the fastest in the NFL.

His hand usage and foot speed make him borderline unstoppable for opposing offenses. It’s tough for quarterbacks to get off accurate throws when Donald is in their lap in less than four seconds.
