Aaron Crow on Cubs' comeback trail

Feb. 21--Aaron Crow believes he has turned the corner in his rehabilitation from reconstructive elbow surgery.

"The best-case scenario is sometime around June," Crow said of his potential return to the major leagues with the Chicago Cubs.

Crow, 29, could be a big addition to the Cubs' bullpen if he completes his comeback. Crow, who has a 3.43 ERA over four seasons (2011-14) with the Kansas City Royals. Crow was later traded to the Miami Marlins, only to suffer an elbow injury shortly before the start of the 2015 season.

"you got to learn very quickly that you got to be patient because (the rehab) is so long," said Crow, a former first round pick of the Royals. "The hard part is behind me now so I just got to get back in throwing shape and have a few more months of throwing light side (sessions) to get ready. The whole process is long, so you just look at it like that and take it day by day.

Crow said he's already picked up a few tips from pitching coach Chris Bosio but has been relegated to limited work that includes working on his windup without throwing a baseball on days he doesn't throw bullpen sessions.

"I just have to stay focused on me," Crow said. "These guys are throwing bullpens every other day, and right now I'm every four days. Those extra days in between, you can always do something to get better. As clich頡s it sounds, the little stuff helps. If I can do something like yesterday, a little bit helps."
