Aaron Cresswell's message to left-back rival Luke Shaw ahead of Manchester United vs West Ham

England and the Premier League are blessed with high-quality options at full-back right now - but none better than Luke Shaw. That is according to West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell, who is set to face the England man at Old Trafford tonight (7.15pm).

Having overcome a number of injury problems during his time with Manchester United - in addition to falling out of favour under previous regimes - Shaw has been one of the club's top performers this season.

He even scored his second league goal for United in the Manchester derby last weekend.

With the delayed Euro 2020 championships set to take place this summer, Shaw's impressive form won't have gone unnoticed by England manager Gareth Southgate, who can also call upon the likes of Ben Chilwell and Bukayo Saka at left-back.

But according to another man who knows the position well, there should only be one name in contention for the number three shirt.

Ahead of tonight's Premier League clash, West Ham defender Cresswell told The Mirror : "I've been very impressed with Luke.

"When he first burst on to the scene at Southampton, I remember thinking: 'This kid's going to be world class'.

"He had everything at 17, 18 - the size, the power, pace and ability with the ball.

"Then he had a bad injury and he had a tough time under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, but this year you could arguably say he's been the best left-back in the Premier League."

Shaw won the last of his eight England caps in 2018, while 31-year-old Cresswell made three appearances for his country back in 2016 - and even he hasn't given up all hope of an international recall.

He added: "I'll never give up on playing for England, but I'm 31 now and you look at some of the younger boys and the way the squad is going.

"It is one of the strongest England squads of the last 20 or 30 years and they're going to go on in the next 10 years and do some great things, and get a trophy hopefully.

"You look at the likes of Luke, who has been absolutely fantastic this season, only 25, and Ben Chilwell, who did really well at the start of the season and is still continuing.

"My main thing is West Ham. If I can do well and do the right things on the pitch for West Ham, then England is an option."
