Aaron Cresswell details West Ham United's set-piece preparation to beat Leeds United

Aaron Cresswell has admitted that West Ham paid particular focus to set-pieces after beating Leeds United 2-1.

The Whites were undone by familiar failings as two headers from dead balls proved decisive.

Leeds took the lead in the third minute as Mateusz Klich converted from 12 yards after Patrick Bamford was brought down by Lukas Fabianski, with a helping hand from VAR.

Klich's first effort was tame and easily stopped by Fabianski who thought he'd earned a reprieve, only for the technology to rule he was off his line when the kick was taken.

Leeds' vulnerability from set-pieces was then exposed once more as they conceded for a sixth time this season, with Tomas Soucek rising above Stuart Dallas to make his height advantage pay dividends.

That was West Ham's route to a winner too, but not before Illan Meslier forced into a terrific one-handed stop to deny Fabian Valbeuna's bullet header from an inswinging free-kick.

Leeds failed to learn their lesson though and Angelo Ogbonna rose highest to head West Ham's winner with 10 minutes remaining, leaving Meslier motionless.

That was the seventh occasion Leeds had conceded from a set-piece this term and Cresswell admitted it's an area they paid particular focus too.

"If you look at Man United it's similar to the amount of chances we created," he told Sky Sports after the match.

"It was four or five clear-cut chances. We didn't put the ball in the back of the net, we know what Leeds are all about, they never stop.

"They work all over the pitch but we stuck together.

“They're (set-pieces) massive. We have Paul and Kev Nolan, who take a real shine to it and really sit down to work it out, so credit to them.

"Look at our set-pieces, not just the first contact, but the second phase. It’s a massive part of our game and it’s worked again tonight."
