Aaron Connolly has been ruled out of tomorrow’s key World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg with another injury setback.
The Brighton forward will also miss Tuesday’s friendly clash with Qatar in Hungary and has returned to his club.
Connolly started Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat to Serbia in Belgrade but carried a rib injury into that opening game.
But he required treatment on a leg issue during the second-half and was replaced by Shane Long after 67 minutes.
Long is in the selection mix for tomorrow’s vital game at Aviva Stadium but Luton Town striker James Collins is the frontrunner to start.
Ireland boss Stephen Kenny - who will speak at the pre-match press conference this afternoon - is likely to revert to a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation for this game.
In Serbia, he played three at the back with wing-backs in a new formation.
