Aaron Connolly signs four-year contract extension with Brighton

Aaron Connolly has signed a new bumper deal with Brighton after an impressive debut season in the Premier League.

The Republic of Ireland forward agreed a four-year extension and will stay with Albion until 2024.

Galway man Connolly, 20, made 27 appearances in all competitions this season and scored three goals.

“It’s fantastic the club has given me this security because I can push on now for the next four years,” said Connolly.

“It will help me relax and enjoy my football even more. This season has been unbelievable and the Tottenham game, when I scored twice, was a big moment for me.

“But then I had a dip where I didn’t get the goals and that was tough to take.

“But to get one against Burnley on the final day of the season and to go into the break knowing I’ve scored another goal since Spurs was a great feeling.

“I’m just looking forward to improving even more next season.”

Connolly - who had been linked with clubs in Germany until he signed the deal - thanked Brighton boss Graham Potter for putting his faith in him.

“Without the manager I don’t think I’d have played any Premier League games for Brighton by now,” he said.

“I owe a lot to him and I want to repay that faith next season.

“The trust he has put in me is a huge bonus even without the goals, so if I can score regularly next season it will make me even happier.”

Brighton’s Technical director Dan Ashworth said: “It’s been a breakthrough season for Aaron but he’s always looking to improve every aspect of his game.

“His new contract will give him stability and the opportunity to really develop with us. We’re looking forward to helping him become an even better player.”
