Aaron Boone does not expect that there would be a postponement on Friday when the Yankees and Mets begin the Subway Series.
The Yankees manager said his team will have a wider discussion of the strikes happening throughout sports in reaction to the Jacob Blake shooting by police in Wisconsin.
"I'm not expecting that. But I mean, again, when we get together as a team and have those discussions and see where we are 24 hours from now or 16 hours from now to have a better lay of the land and just hopefully get input from all our people in our organization," Boone said on his weekly WFAN spot.
The Yankees and Braves were on the field when the Milwaukee Bucks decided not to play their NBA playoff game in protest of the police shooting of Blake in Kenosha, Wis. Boone said in the 30 minutes between games he was only made aware of what was happening when he ran in to do a media interview. He said there was no team discussion in the clubhouse before they went back out.
"We did not really have a chance to discuss it between games, obviously, today being an off day for us, we had some smaller discussions last night on our way home and we'll talk again when we get together," Boone said.
The Mets and Marlins played at Citi Field Wednesday night, but the emotional press conference of Dominic Smith was so moving that the Phillies cited it as their reason to not play Thursday night.
Friday night, MLB is scheduled to celebrate Jackie Robinson Day.
So, Thursday, the Players Alliance, a group of over 100 current and former Black professional baseball players, announced they would donate their salaries from Aug. 27 and 28 to their causes of combating racial inequity and the Black families and communities deeply affected in the wake of recent events.
Boone said he would also be donating his salary from this weekend to the Players Alliance.
