AAP needs to take firm action against forces inimical to peace, says Capt Amarinder Singh

CHANDIGARH: Punjab former CM Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday warned the Aam Aadmi Party government of the activities of forces "inimical" to Punjab and the nation.

Addressing a press conference after inducting former office-bearers of the Punjab Lok Congress into the BJP, Amarinder said law and order was a state subject and it was the duty and responsibility of the state government to confront such forces and their activities.

He said Pakistan was behind these activities as it had never stopped from indulging in mischief and seeking an opportunity to foment trouble in Punjab. He added he had for long been maintaining that Pakistan was using drones to send weapons and drugs into Punjab. He said earlier, the range of drones was about 7km and now these could go up to 42km.

Amarinder said if the state government did not take firm action, the situation could deteriorate and Punjab could not afford this. Reacting to the state’s finances and debt, the former CM said it was not possible for Centre to help Punjab. "The Centre does not have that much money to waive debt as everything is planned and budgeted," he said, adding that the state would need to generate and mobilise its own resources.

Talking of the office-bearers of PLC, which he recently merged into the BJP, Amarinder said he was grateful to them for standing by him in difficult times.

He said similar inductions will take place in Malwa, Doaba and Majha regions to induct grassroots-level workers into the BJP. Earlier, welcoming PLC office-bearers, BJP state president Ashwani Sharma said the party’s base in Punjab had expanded and broadened further. He said with Amarinder, the BJP was not only feeling strengthened in Punjab but nationally as well as he was popular across the country.

Those who were inducted into the party on Saturday included Patiala mayor Sajiv Bittu Sharma, Bikram Inder Singh Chahal, K K Sharma, Jagmohan Sharma, Ankit Bansal, Damanjit Singh Mohie, Sachin Sharma, Vishwas Sharma, KK Malhotra, Harmesh Dakala, Surinder Ghuman, Anuj Khosla and others.
