AAF’s Memphis Express will feature former Titans in season opener

There wasn’t football in February until now.

Though the NFL action may have ended with Super Bowl LIII, there will still be games airing this weekend. The recently formed Alliance of American Football will have its season while the NFL hits a lull, with its Memphis Express set to take on the Birmingham Iron on Sunday.

And there will be some familiar faces to Titans fans on the field.

The most notable of these is former quarterback Zach Mettenberger. According to reports by the Express, Mettenberger had the edge for most of a competitive camp, but has since fallen behind projected starter, Christian Hackenberg.

Mettenberger was a sixth-round pick for the Titans in 2014, and started a total of ten games for the team between 2014 and 2015. He had stints with the Chargers and Steelers before ultimately being released in May of 2017.

He’s expected to be the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart by this weekend.

On the roster, the Express also feature former Titans practice squad defensive end, Julius Warmsley, and wide receiver Demore’ea Stringfellow.

Defensive end Johnny Maxey, who also spent time on the Titans’ practice squad, will suit up on the opposite sideline for the Iron.

The Express are set to kick off against the Iron at 3 p.m. CT on Sunday at Legion Field. The game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
