AAF player learns of league’s collapse less than 24 hours after signing contract

Former Michigan State and Jets linebacker Taiwan Jones thought he was getting a chance to showcase his game in the start-up AAF. He signed a contract with the Memphis Express on Monday and was ready to get to work.

He would be out of a football job less than 24 hours later.

The AAF suspended its football operations on Tuesday after chairman Tom Dundon opted to pull the plug on the operation.

Jones, who last played in the NFL in 2016, was particularly disappointed about the decision. He tweeted on Tuesday, “I’m sick.”

While the AAF didn’t rule out the hope of restructuring the league to stay alive, the players basically declared that the league was done.

An Arizona Hotshots player shouted at cameras, “I just got fired on my day off.”

Other players chimed in on the news as well.
