A92 crash: Police officer seriously injured after parked vehicle hit by car transporter

A police officer has been seriously injured and was airlifted to hospital following today's crash on the A92 , Police Scotland have confirmed.

The road was closed in both directions following the incident in Fife on Thursday afternoon.

The police officer's car had been stopped and was assisting another vehicle which had broken down when it was struck by a car transporter.

Pictures shared on social media show a badly-damaged police vehicle in a ditch by the side of the road.

An air ambulance arrived at the scene to take the injured officer to hospital.

The force said: "The A92 has been closed westbound from Crossgates to Cowdenbeath due to a serious crash involving two vehicles, which happened around 1.40pm today. Diversions are in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area.

"The crash involved a transporter and a police vehicle. The police vehicle had been stationary and assisting a vehicle which had stopped.

"One officer has been airlifted to hospital with what are believed to be serious injuries and the A92 westbound remains closed."

Other incidents are also causing major travel disruption on Thursday afternoon.
