A9 closed amid serious multi-vehicle crash as emergency services race to scene

A major road has been closed in both directions after a "serious" multi-vehicle crash.

Traffic on the A9 near to Dowally, Pitlochry was brought to a standstill at around 1pm on Sunday after the smash.

It is not known if anyone has been injured.

The road is expected to be closed for some time.

Edinburgh council in radical plans to ban polluting vehicles from ALL city streets  

Tayside Police confirmed the incident on their Facebook page.

They wrote: "Police Scotland are advising members of the public that there has been a serious road traffic incident on the A9 at its junction with Dowally, southbound and area advised to avoid the area if possible.

"Emergency services are on scene."

Just after 2.20pm, Traffic Scotland updated drivers on the situation on the roads.

They wrote on Twitter : "A9 remains closed B/D at Dowally, Pitlochry and will be for sometime.

"Due to serious multi vehicle RTC.

"Trapped traffic with slow traffic in the area.

"Emergency services on scene. Use alternate route if possible."
