Motorist hospitalised after car plunges down embankment on A82 near Old Kilpatrick

A man has been rushed to hospital after a car crashed on the A82 this morning.

A Police spokesperson said: "At around 11.25am on Monday, 19 July, we received a report that a car had gone down an embankment following a crash on the A82 near the Erskine Bridge.

"Emergency services are in attendance and a man has been taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service meanwhile confirmed that they had extinguished a blaze at a fuse box and within the vehicle..

A spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.31am on Monday, July 19 to reports of a fuse box on fire near to the Erskine Bridge.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting one car and a fuse box.

“One casualty was in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

The section of the busy A82 heading towards Dumbarton had been closed near the Erskine Bridge following the incident.

Traffic heading towards Dumbarton was impacted by the closure - with a diversion in place.

On their Twitter page Amey, the maintenance company responsible for the A82, said that the incident involved a single vehicle.

The road reopened at 2.45pm on Monday afternoon.
