Motorists are being warned of overnight disruption on the A78 as a £180,000 resurfacing project swings into action.
Essential maintenance will be carried out on the key route which connects North Ayrshire with Inverclyde.
The carriageway will be upgraded between The Lighthouses and Kelly Burn with work starting on Thursday and a completion date of Wednesday, October 13 circled on the calendar.
Overnight closures on the A78 at Wemyss Bay will be implemented and there will be a signed diversion route between Largs and Greenock through the Garnock Valley.
Northbound traffic will be directed to leave the A78 at Hailie Brae/A760 (Largs) and continue on the A760 to Kilbirnie to join the southbound B780. From here, vehicles will join the B777 on to the A737 at Beith and continue north to the A737 towards Johnstone and join the A761 to Clune Brae (Port Glasgow).
Traffic will then follow the A8 at Newark roundabout and travel west to Greenock, to rejoin the A78 at Bullring roundabout.
Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction. Wemyss Bay Caravan Park will remain open at all times throughout the works with access only restricted from the north (via Inverkip) during the overnight working hours.
Temporary traffic lights will be required during daytime hours to facilitate cooling of the newly-laid materials.
Overnights closure access will be maintained for properties and businesses in the vicinity of the works, under escort.
Amey will deliver the improvements as part of its service to the south-west trunk roads network.
