A woman has been taken to hospital after a serious road smash on the busy A779 in West Lothian.
The road was closed off in both directions shortly before 7am after a crash on the route between the A89 Boghall Roundabout and the M8 junction 3A at Bathgate.
Queues were back past Boghall Roundabout and along towards Kirkton Public Park on the A89. The A7066 Starlaw Road was also busy as a result.
Delays were experienced for much of the morning before the road was reopened to traffic shortly after 10.30am.
Police have confirmed that a woman was taken to hospital, although her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
