A77 to undergo week of overnight closures as vital resurfacing work takes place

A string of closures will affect the A77 over the next week as the road undergoes major resurfacing.

Works begin tonight (Sunday) as part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme.

The works will be carried out overnight by Scotland TranServ.

A stretch of the road totalling 1.4km will be repaired during the major project.

Gordon Coppard, Scotland TranServ’s Area Network Manager said: " This is an important section of the trunk road network, and as such is used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working.

"It is vital that we complete these works in order to maintain road safety.

"Works will be carried out overnight in order to reduce the impact on communities and businesses as they recover at this time."

Closures will be implemented during the following times:

  • A77 Southbound between Meiklewood Interchange and Dutch House Roundabout

-          Monday 3rd August – Daytime Lane closure (0930 – 1530hrs)

-          Monday 3rd August – Night time total closure (2000 – 0600hrs)

-          Tuesday 4th August – Night time total closure (2000 – 0600hrs)

Essential cyclic maintenance of the A77 in this area will be carried out under the daytime lane closure in order to minimise further disruption.

  • A77 Southbound St Quivox between Prestwick and Ayr

-          8pm on Wednesday August 5 until 6am on Thursday, August 6

-          8pm on Thursday, August 6 until 6am on Friday, August 7

-          8pm on Friday, August 7 until 6am on Saturday, August 8

-          8pm on Saturday, August 8 until 6am on Sunday, August 9

  • A77 Southbound Approach to Whitletts Roundabout

-       To be delivered subsequently with above St Quivox overnight resurfacing

Local diversions will be in place throughout this series of overnight closures.

Special arrangements will be made for emergency service vehicles.

No additional measures are being made for windfarm traffic or abnormal loads.

Drivers are advised to allow some extra time for their journeys.
