A77 southbound shut down after 'road traffic incident'

A carriageway on Ayrshire's busiest road has been shut down this afternoon following a road traffic incident.

The A77 southbound is currently closed to all vehicles with police en route to the scene.

Traffic Scotland is reporting that there has been a road traffic collision near Coodham, just outside Symington.

Road users are reporting huge delays on the stretch of road and drivers have been urged to use an alternative route.

Traffic Scotland's website says: "A77 Southbound is currently closed at Coodham due to a road traffic incident. Road users are advised to use an alternative route and allow extra time for their journey."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were made aware of a crash on the A77 southbound between Kilmarnock and Symington involving a van and a motorcycle around 12.40pm on Friday, January 28.

“The road is currently closed southbound and emergency services remain at the scene.”
