A75 traffic near Castle Douglas disrupted by loose pigs in lay-by

Traffic was disrupted in a pig-culiar incident on the A75 near Castle Douglas on Sunday morning.

Police hoofed it to the scene after receiving calls from motorists that two pigs were loose in a lay-by.

Officers stopped traffic in both directions and urge drivers to drive slowly past the animals so as not to disturb them.

However, both road hogs in the eastbound carriageway lay-by opposite the crawler lane up from Ram Hill Bridge appeared unconcerned.

And in ty-pig-cal behaviour the swine contented themselves by rooting up a section of the grass verge.

One officer at the scene told the Galloway News: “We don’t know how they got there or where they came from.

“We just responded after being contacted my motorists.”

The pigs, believed to be saddleback sows, were kept well away from the road by police until they were uplifted.
