A701 to be closed near Beattock for weekend roadworks

A 445m section of the A701 near Beattock will be closed all next weekend with diversions in place.

Amey will combine three projects while the Dumfries to Edinburgh road from Tathill to Broomlands is shut off to traffic from 8pm on Friday, September 18 until 6am on Monday, September 20.

It is part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme and the works will cost £194,500 with traffic management and diversion along the B7076 in place all weekend.

As well as resurfacing, the works will include the next phase of the A701 Close Follow project introducing a series of road markings to further highlight the issues of tailgating. There will also be additional lining works carried out.

Amey said the single closure for combined works will help minimise disruption for communities and businesses using the A701.

Special arrangements will be made for emergency service vehicles. No additional arrangements have been put in place for windfarm traffic or abnormal loads.

Drivers are advised to allow additional time for their journeys in order to follow the diversion. Live updates are available by visiting trafficscotland.org, or by following @trafficscotland on Twitter.
