A69 reopens after 11 hours following recovery of overturned lorry

The A69 in Northumberland has reopened following an 11 hour clean-up operation.

Emergency services were called to the scene following a report of a one-vehicle collision on the A69 westbound between Hexham and Corbridge at 5.30am on Thursday.

The lorry, which was carrying timber, had overturned in the road and was blocking both carriageways.

Police closed in both directions between Stagshaw and Bridge End ans said: "Diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible.”

Drivers were warned that the road would be closed for "several hours".

At around 4.30pm, a spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "The A69 has now reopened in both directions following the overturned HGV between Hexham and Corbridge earlier today.

"Thanks so much for your cooperation while the clear-up operation took place."
