A68 Fala: Midlothian road reopens to traffic after dramatic landslide

The A68 in Midlothian is set to reopen to traffic today after a dramatic landslide left the main road closed, resulting in a 27-mile diversion for motorists.

The key route which links the Borders and Edinburgh closed due to a severe weather incident on the early hours of Wednesday 12 August on the A68 /B6367 from Pathhead to the B6458 at Fala Dam.

Approximately 5,000 tonnes of stone were required to rebuild the 20-metre embankment after the collapse left a large gap in the carriageway.

Bear Scotland have said said traffic lights will be in place "to allow finishing works on the verge, footpath construction and further drainage clearance to be completed safely."

It is hoped that these lights will be removed from the Midlothian road later in the week.
