A627 Ashton Road in Oldham closed following reports of man on a roof

The main road between Oldham and Ashton-under-Lyne has been closed following reports of a man on the roof of a building.

A627 Ashton Road, in Bardsley, has been shut in both directions between Park Bridge Road and Simkin Way.

There is also a large emergency service presence close to Holy Trinity Church.

According to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) the man is engaging with emergency services.

A GMP spokesman said: "Officers were called to Ashton Road, Oldham, at about 10.52am today (14 September) over concerns for the welfare of a man.

"The man is on the roof of a building and is engaging with police.

"There is a scene ongoing and road closures in place.

"GMFRS and NWAS are also in attendance."

First Manchester confirmed that 409 services are diverting via Park Road, Lees Road, Queens Road and Mossley Road until clear.
