A56 Peel Way in Bury blocked in both directions due to two-car crash

A main road in the centre of Bury has been blocked off both ways following a crash between two cars.

A56 Peel Way is partially blocked after two cars collided with one another at the B6222 Moorgate junction.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 5.30pm and photos taken by eyewitnesses appear to show that one of the cars had mounted the bonnet of the other during the impact.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has warned of congestion in the area.

A TfGM spokesman tweeted: "Collision at the junction of A56 Walmersley Road/Peel Way (Bury).

"This is causing delays on all approaches to the junction.

"Congestion also affecting vehicles in the Bury area due to the SB closure of Wash Lane.

"Allow extra time."

Traffic monitoring website Inrix also confirmed that traffic is slower than usual in the area.

An Inrix traffic update reads: "A56 Peel Way in both directions partially blocked, slow traffic due to accident, two vehicles involved at B6222 Moorgate.

"An accident at the junction is causing delays on all approaches."
