A52 lane reopens at Clifton Bridge

Highways England bosses have confirmed a lane has reopened at the A52 Clifton Bridge.

The eastbound bridge, that opened in 1972, had been completely closed for seven days after damaged steel work and concrete were found during a routine inspection on February 6.

Upon opening up the concrete, engineers found the steel cables on the far left of the bridge had corroded, and Highways England made the call to shut the road.

Highways England regional director, Catherine Brookes, told Nottinghamshire Live that engineers were working to reopen one lane "as far over to the right" as possible on Wednesday afternoon (February 12).

A spokesman for Highways England has since confirmed one lane has reopened on the eastbound carriageway at .

Westbound lanes remain unaffected, he said.

Highways England tweeted to say: "Update: We have reopened 1 lane on the Eastbound A52, this also allows access to the A453 for Clifton.

"The Eastbound entry slip at Queens Drive will remain closed."

Nottingham City Transport tweeted to say that buses will use the reopened lane.

The bus company said: "A lane on is now open towards Clifton.

"Our Grey 53, 54 buses towards Clifton will use this lane and will no longer divert via Trent Bridge and Wilford Lane.

"Buses cannot serve QMC Medical School, Dunkirk or Clifton Bridge North stops towards Clifton."
