A465 crash: Two dead after horror two-car smash during rush hour

Two people have been killed in a serious car crash on a rural road tonight.

The two-vehicle smash happened on the remote A465 Heads of the Valleys Road near Merthyr Tydfil, south Wales.

Welsh Ambulance Service has confirmed two people died. Another person was dashed to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

A South Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said four crews attended the scene. Firefighters had to cut one person free from wreckage.

Cynon Valley AM Vikki Howells said on Twitter: “My thoughts are with all those involved in this serious accident.”

The road, which runs southwest to Neath near Swansea, remains closed.

South Wales Police said they are in attendance.

Alternative routes, which are largely rural, are busy as a result.

No further details about the victims have been confirmed.
