A4018 reopens following huge blaze at Premier Inn Cribbs Causeway

A vital link road has partially reopened this evening after being closed in both directions for four days following a huge blaze.

The A4018 Cribbs Causeway was shut after a fire erupted at the Premier Inn Hotel on Wednesday (July 17)  at 1:27pm.

dramatic video captured the fire taking hold, with further footage showing part of the hotel collapsing onto the road where the blaze was at its worst.

More than 60 firefighters have been involved in fighting the blaze. Black smoke could be seen billowing across Bristol's skyline which could be seen from as far away as Totterdown.

The hotel is now being demolished (Avon Fire and Rescue Service)

Avon and Somerset Constabulary declared a major incident  due to the fire, as the force was already stretched dealing with Extinction Rebellion protesters.

Traffic monitoring site Inrix says: "A4018 Cribbs Causeway in both directions partially blocked due to an earlier building fire at the Premier Inn Hotel from B4055 Station Road to Lysander Road.

There is a hole in the skyline where the hotel's entrance used to be (Avon Fire and Rescue Service)

"Traffic is coping well. Traffic sensors were still showing that the road remained closed following building collapse on Wednesday afternoon, however the road is now partially open."
