A4 Portway shut after man seriously injured in cliff face fall

Avon and Fire Rescue Services has confirmed a seriously injured man was airlifted at Sea Walls around 1pm today (Monday May 29). This resulted in A4 Portway road being closed in both directions.

A spokesperson for Avon and Fire Rescue said: “A 20 year old male climber had fallen and has been rescued from a cliff face. He was treated at the scene and has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.”

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that Portway has been closed. A spokesperson said: “The Portway has been closed in both directions while emergency services attend a concern for welfare call.

“The road is closed from Bridge Valley Road to Sylvan Way and at Roman Way. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.”

An air ambulance was spotted landing at the scene.
