A4 Portway crash: Family release picture and pay tribute to man 'everyone will miss'

The family of a man who died in a crash on the A4 Portway in Bristol yesterday have paid tribute to him.

Tony Wring, 59, from Bedminster, was riding a motorbike when he was involving in a collision with a lorry on near Sea Mills on Thursday (October 7).

The collision happened at about 5.45am and Mr Wring died at the scene, police have confirmed.

Mr Wring’s family tribute reads: “A man that everyone loved and everyone will miss. You will always be in our hearts.”

His family have asked for privacy at this very difficult time.

The road which links Avonmouth and Bristol was shut from the A4162 at Sylvan Way, Sea Mills, to the A4176 Bridge Valley Road at Clifton Downs as specialist collision investigators worked on the scene.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service said yesterday: "Crews from Avonmouth, Southmead, Temple and Pill were called to reports of a road traffic collision on The Portway, Sea Mills at 5:53am

“Firefighters provided heavy rescue equipment to support police and ambulance colleagues at the scene.

"Crews stood down and left the scene at approximately 9am. The road remains closed and other emergency services remain on the scene."

The road was closed while police investigations continued into the early evening.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to contact them with reference number 5221233777.

Police said in a short statement yesterday: "Police, ambulance and fire crews were all called to the scene.

"Sadly, the male motorcyclist sustained significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed."
