A38 to reopen after road collapsed due to burst water main

Bristol Water have announced that the stretch of the A38 between the A371 Sidcot Lane and Oakridge Lane will reopen tomorrow afternoon after the road collapsed because of a burst water main.

The road serves an important route to Bristol Airport and will be welcome relief to the motorists that have to use it.

The burst caused significant damage to the road, with one of Stagecoach's South West Falcon buses becoming stranded in a sinkhole which had opened.

Bristol Water originally excavated the road and found problems across both carriageways last Friday (August 14).

But now they have taken to social media to share the good news that the road will be reopening tomorrow afternoon.

They posted: "A38 UPDATE Our crew have been hard at work, the reinstatement of the road is progressing well, and almost finished now.

"The road will be reopened on Friday afternoon -21 August."

Workers have now been able to rebuild the structure of the carriageway, resurface the road and replace kerbs and other damaged areas.

Until tomorrow, motorists are still being advised to avoid the area and use the signed diversion route.
