A major route near Bristol Airport will remain closed for several days this week after a burst water main caused the road to partially collapse.
The A38 Bristol Road in Winscombe was closed both ways shortly before 2.30am last Friday (August 14), between the A371 Sidcot Lane and Oakridge Lane.
The burst caused significant damage to the road, with one of Stagecoach's South West Falcon buses becoming stranded in a sinkhole which had opened.
North Somerset Council has now confirmed that the road will remain closed until later this week on Friday (August 21) after Bristol Water excavated the road and found problems across both carriageways.
The council says that workers need to rebuild the structure of the carriageway, resurface the road and replace kerbs and other damaged areas.
Motorists in the meantime are being advised to avoid the area and use the signed diversion route.
Drivers are also being warned of the closure on warning signs on the M5 and where the A38 joins the A370.
Councillor Mike Bell, deputy leader of North Somerset Council, asked people to be patient while the road was repaired.

He said: "We appreciate that this is a key route but safety has to come first.
"We are working with Bristol Water to ensure that the work is completed as quickly as possible. We are also in close contact with colleagues at Bristol Airport, Highways England and the police.
"If you do need to get to the airport during the road closure we would urge you to allow extra time for the journey."
