A37 crash: arrest made as crash leaves motorcyclist with 'possible life-changing injuries'

A person has been arrested after a crash on the A37 yesterday (August 25) which left a motorcyclist with possible life-changing injuries. The person has since been released under investigation.

Avon and Somerset Police was called to the crash site near Whitchurch at around 1.30pm yesterday. The road was closed for several hours after the crash between a vehicle and a motorbike, causing long traffic delays.

The motorcyclist was transferred to Southmead Hospital by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. In a statement, the force said today (August 26): "One person has been arrested and released under investigation. There is no update on the victim at this time."

The road was initially closed between Woolard Lane to Staunton Lane at 1.35pm on Thursday. Traffic reporting system Inrix confirmed the road closure has been extended back to Pensford at 4.25pm, with long delays in the area.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said at the time: “We were called at 13.23hrs to a road traffic collision in the Whitchurch area. We sent two land ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, a critical care car and an operations officer. We conveyed one patient to Southmead Hospital by land ambulance”.
