A1 to be closed for several hours after lorry overturned

A busy Nottinghamshire route will be partially closed for several hours after a lorry overturned. National Highways reported the A1 had been closed southbound between the B6326 near Newark-on-Trent and the B1174 near Grantham, as of 12.41pm on Wednesday, March 8.

Emergency services are on scene but the road is expected to remain closed for several hours and into this afternoon’s peak. This is due to the complex nature of the LGV’s recovery, according to the highways authority.

The incident happened near the slip roads for the village of Long Bennington shortly after midday. Diverted traffic should follow the hollow diamond symbols from the junction with the A46 at Newark, travel along the A46 to Bingham and then take the A52 eastbound to rejoin the A1 at Grantham.

National Highways has advised road users to check live traffic conditions before setting off at www.trafficengland.com and to check @HighwaysEMIDS on Twitter for updates if it is safe to do so.
