A1 motorway closed after two lorries blown over in high winds

Two HGVs have been blown over this morning forcing the closure of the A1 road in East Lothian.

The lorries were on the motorway, which runs from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Edinburgh, between the Torness and Innerwick junctions at around 7.45am when they toppled over.

Police, fire and ambulance crews are currently at the scene with both north and southbound routes closed.

The road is expected to remain blocked for some time to allow the emergency services to clear the crash.

It's not known if anyone has been injured as a result of the smash.

A Police Scotland statement read: "Officers are currently on scene making an assessment , however it is likely the road will be closed for some time.

"A diversion route is being implemented and officers are doing everything they can to safely divert those currently stuck in the closure asap."

Commuters are advised to use alternative routes.

Traffic Scotland tweeted: "The #A1 has been completely CLOSED in both directions between Torness and the Innerwick junctions."

The smash comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain and wind across large parts of the country.

It's predicted train and bus services will be affected from 5am to 5pm today.
