Lane closures are causing lengthy delays on the A1 near Old Craighall, with traffic backing up on to Edinburgh's City Bypass.
Carriageway inspections are being carried out on the route between Old Craighall and Tranent in East Lothian .
Works got underway at 9.30am this morning and the measures are expected to be in place until 3.30pm.
Traffic Scotland tweeted at around 11.15am to say that things were looking slow in both directions on the route.
And around an hour later they said that queues were now backing up on to the Edinburgh City Bypass eastbound.
There have also been reports of heavy traffic through Musselburgh as a result.
