A1 in Nottinghamshire to be closed for hours after vehicle fire

A major road has been closed as work starts on a "complex" vehicle recovery following a fire. National Highways has announced the A1 in Nottinghamshire is closed northbound between the A620 (Ranby) and A1M (Blyth) due to a vehicle requiring recovery after a fire on the evening of Tuesday, June 14.

The authority said work was under way at around 9am on Wednesday, June 15, and the closure would likely remain for several hours. The vehicle will have be lifted during the recovery, which National Highways called a "complex vehicle recovery".

Recovery services are on scene along with National Highways service providers. Motorists have been told to expect delays as a result of the closure.

A diversion route, published by National Highways, said road users were advised to follow the solid circle diversion symbol on road signs. This would lead them to exit the A1 at Apleyhead Interchange and take the A57 west, before travelling along the A57 to the M1 J3.

Following this, drivers should travel on the M1 north and at J32, take the M18 then continue on the M18 to A1M J35 and re-join.

National Highways has warned those impacted by the closure to allow extra journey time as well as re-routing or even delaying journeys.
