A1 in East Lothian to be partially closed for resurfacing works in October

Parts of a busy East Lothian duel carriageway will be closed overnight at the end of the month for improved road surfacing works.

The A1 northbound carriageway between Dolphingstone junction and Wallyford junction will be closed from October 26 until November 2.

To ensure the safety of workers, these parts of the A1 will be closed between the hours of 20:00 until 06:00 the following day, every night between the time period mentioned.

A diversion route will be in place and signposted between Dolphingstone junction and Wallyford junction via the A199 and A6094. This will add approximately 2.1 miles ad six minutes to affected journeys.

The work is being completed by Scotland's Transport operating company, BEAR Scotland, with around 2.3km of road receiving a smoother surface to benefit drivers.

Emergency services will have access to the road at all times and local access for residents situated in this area will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the works.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly improve the driving experience for motorists.

“It is essential that we close the road during these works to ensure the safety of our road workers and motorists, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight and at weekends to minimise the impact.

For all of those planning on making the journey through this area during the given dates, make sure you check ahead with Traffic Scotland and plan your journey accordingly.
