A1 delays after car and truck crash near Dunston leaving driver injured

A driver was left injured after a car and truck crashed on the A1 in Gateshead.

Police were called to the two-vehicle collision on the southbound side of the carriageway near junction 70 for Dunston , close to the Metrocentre, just before 3pm on Monday.

The driver of the car was injured but the truck driver was unhurt.

One lane of the A1 was closed to traffic for just over an hour and traffic delays built up.

The road was reopened just after 4pm but were still some lasting delays through Gateshead until around 4.30pm.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "We received a report of a two vehicle collision, involving a VW Passat and a truck, at the Western Bypass, Dunston, Gateshead, today at 2.50pm.

"The driver of the Passat has sustained an injury to his ribs and the truck driver was left shaken but appeared uninjured."

One Hazardous Area Response Team vehicle was sent by the North East Ambulance Service but was stood down at the scene.
