A1 crash leaves man in Edinburgh hospital after two lorries collide on busy East Lothian route

A 22-year-old man has been rushed to hospital following a horror crash between two lorries on the A1.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash, near Thortonloch in East Lothian, shortly after 10am on Thursday.

The road was closed to traffic as police and ambulance crews dealt with the incident, and the route has remained shut throughout the afternoon.

Police say a man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

A large amount of Bitumen has also spilled onto the road, and works are ongoing to clean it up.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called around 10.10 am to reports of a crash on the A1 near Thorntonloch involving two HGVs.

“A 22-year-old man’s been taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

“As a result of the incident, Bitumen has spilled onto the road, and it will remain closed until the vehicles have been removed and the road has been cleared.”
