A1 crash claims life of man, PSNI confirm

Police say a man has died after a road traffic collision on Monday morning.

The A1 was closed for several hours southbound at Hillsborough following the single vehicle crash.

The male, aged in his 30's, died at the scene after a blue Mercedes car left the southern bound carriageway shortly after 5am.

Inspector Quinn said: "Sadly the man, who was the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"An investigation is underway and I would ask anyone who was in the area and witnessed the collision, or who captured it on their dash cam, to call officers at the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 142 02/11/20."

The A1 has re-reopened, police added.

Officers also attended a multi-vehicle collision in Downpatrick on Monday.

The A25 Ballyduggan Road has since reopened.

Trafficwatch NI said: "Earlier the road traffic collision on A25 Ballydugan Road in Downpatrick near Tullymurray Equistrian Centre has now been cleared and the road has fully re-opened."

Meanwhile, a number of roads in West Belfast remain closed this afternoon as police attend a security alert.
