A1 closed near Morpeth as emergency services remain at scene of two-vehicle crash

Motorists are facing rush hour chaos after a collision on the A1.

The road is expected to be closed in both directions for another two hours following the two vehicle crash on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services remain on scene around Causey Park, near Morpeth , and one person has been taken to hospital.

No other details on the casualty are known at this time.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "At 1.03pm today, police received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A1 near Causey Park, Morpeth.

"Emergency services are at the scene. The road is currently closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for the next couple of hours.

“Motorists are advised to use an alternative route, where possible."

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 1.03pm to a road traffic collision on the A1 at Morpeth.

“We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and have transported one patient to the RVI."
