A1 closed near Morpeth after car and lorry crash leaving driver with minor injuries

The A1 has been closed in both directions after a car and lorry collided.

A Ford Fiesta heading south and a lorry heading north crashed on the road near the A697 at Morpeth , Northumberland at around 8.30pm on Tuesday.

The male driver of the Fiesta has been taken to hospital with minor injuries but the lorry driver was not hurt.

Police, firefighters and ambulance crews were called to the crash and the road was closed between Hebron and the A697.

Traffic was diverted away from the A1 from the A1068 and the road was expected to stay closed until around midnight.
