A world first: Rider completes front flip on snow bike

After failing twice to pull off a front flip on a snow bike at X Games Aspen in January, Kyle Demelo went back to the drawing board and finally perfected what has become the sport’s newest trick.

Demelo, 25, became the first rider to complete a front flip on a snow bike, doing so at his Camp H training compound in the Okanagan region of British Columbia, as reported by Monster Energy.

Footage of the trick with a bit of backstory was released Tuesday for the first time. The actual trick can be seen starting at the 1:45 mark.

“It was actually a friend of mine that challenged me to the idea of this front flip,” Demelo said in the video. “So I put the work in and figured it all out.”

Demelo crashed in his first attempt during the X Games when he under-rotated. He was fine, but his snow bike was inoperable. So he borrowed the snow bike of teammate Brett Turcotte for another try. That ended up with a crash, too.

After practicing the trick into a foam pit, Demelo was ready to try it again and succeeded on his first try. He fell to his knees in celebration before petting his pet goat, Gouda.

“We just did it!” Demelo said after landing the trick. “First front flip on a snow bike. This is sick!”
