A woman spat at coffee shop staff and then assaulted two police officers in Manchester city centre.

The horrifying incident took place on Parker Street, near to the Piccadilly Gardens bus station, on Monday, July 27.

Police were called to the coffee shop after the woman spat in the faces of staff members.

She then assaulted two police officers.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of Section 39 assault.

She remains in police custody for questioning.

There are no reports of any serious injuries.

The Greater Manchester Police city centre team wrote on Twitter: "Female arrested in coffee shop after reports of a female spitting in the faces of staff members.

"Female further arrested in custody after assaulting two police officers."
