A Winter Love Island is on the cards as new series earns ITV record ratings

While we're still just two weeks into the new summer series, it'd being widely reported that a Winter Love Island is massively on the cards for the end of the year.

The launch episode of new Love Island broke viewing figures for itv2, with close to 4 million people tuning in on the night

a cumulative total of 5.9million when including views on PC, tablet and mobile.

And there's talk that the channel are looking to cash in on the show's huge popularity with a new version in South Africa, rather than its usual home of Majorca, which means that why the rest of us in the UK are freezing cold at home, a bunch of singles will be sunning themselves while looking for love across the globe.

According to The Sun , itv2 have learned from the poorly received Survival of the Fittest, which failed to set TV ratings alight and are instead re-branding a formula they know works well.

A TV source told the paper "After the flop of Survival of the Fittest producers want to keep the format simple and mop up the gaping hole Celebrity Big Brother left reality TV hungry audiences.

Love Island new boys

"Winter Love Island makes sense as fans adore the drama and love triangles and everyone wants to enjoy a bit of sun on screens in the cold winter months.

“It’s still in the very early stages and casting isn’t even close, but producers at ITV Studios and crew are definitely gearing up for it.”

Love Island originally started life as Celebrity Love Island in the mid-00s, featuring the likes of Bianca Gascoigne and Calum Best, but it's popularity has soared since it's return to screens in 2015.
