A whopping 76% of Americans agree Trump’s Nobel Prize dreams should stay exactly where they belong

The Washington Post and Ipsos recently released a survey measuring how Americans view Donald Trump‘s administrative record, and the results delivered a direct blow to the former president’s long-cherished dream of winning a Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump has been eyeing the highly-regarded Nobel Peace Prize for himself, as another one of his ego-boosting whims. However, the new poll, conducted between Sept. 11 to 15 among 2,513 U.S. adults, should show the MAGA monster just the right mirror. In the questionnaire consisting of 37 questions, 76% of the poll subjects disagreed that Trump should win a Nobel Peace Prize when asked the question.

The rebuke underscores just how deeply unpopular his foreign policy legacy remains, despite repeated efforts by Trump and his allies to paint him as a global dealmaker. In comparison, 41% of people agreed that former President Barack Obama was a worthy recipient when he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009. Trump, by contrast, finds his reputation tied to two major conflicts he presided over and mishandled, according to the public, including between Israel and Gaza and Russia and Ukraine.

58% of people disapproved of the way he handled the war between the two Middle Eastern countries, and a whopping 60% did not like how he handled the situation involving Russia and Ukraine. While several countries, like Israel, Pakistan, and Cambodia, have nominated Trump for the annual prize for brokering peace agreements or ceasefires, the French President Emmanuel Macron bashed Trump, saying he should end the war in Gaza first.

Speaking in the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Macron openly mocked Trump’s ambitions:

“I see an American president who is involved, who reiterated this morning from the podium: ‘I want peace. I have resolved seven conflicts,’ who wants the Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel Peace Prize is only possible if you stop this conflict.” (via News18)

For many Americans, Macron’s critique appears to echo their own. Trump’s image as a peacemaker has been undercut not only by the wars that continue to rage during his tenure, but also by the perception that he has stoked divisions rather than solved them.
