A violent tit-for-tat feud is believed to be behind a Bolton shooting

A violent tit-for-tat feud is believed to be behind a Bolton shooting.

Multiple shots were fired from either a revolver or a machine gun at a house in Hilden Street, in The Haulgh, yesterday.

Windows upstairs and downstairs were peppered by bullets in the brazen early evening attack in broad daylight.

The incident is being potentially linked by police to an attempted assassination and the blowing up of a car in Bolton in July.

An explosive device was thrown inside a car in Castle Street in The Haulgh, a residential area close to Bolton town centre, on July 23.

No one was injured and the resulting blaze was put out.

Detectives linked the incident to a shooting outside a gym on July 12.

A man in his 20s was left fighting for his life after being shot twice in the car park of Outline Health and Fitness Centre in Lever Street.

The gunman, wearing dark clothing, walked up to the victim's car and fired through the window three times.

Following yesterday's attack, police have launched an investigation, while patrols have also been stepped up in the surrounding area.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 5.55pm on Monday, police were called to Hilden Street, Bolton to reports of a firearm discharge.

"Officers attended and found evidence of a firearms discharge which is now being investigated.

"There will be extra patrols in the area and if anyone has any concerns please speak to officers.

"Anybody with information should contact police on 0161 856 6767 , quoting incident number 2301, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
