Twelve years after Lost in Translation, Bill Murray and Sofia Coppola have teamed up again to bring a little extra cheer to the Christmas season with their upcoming Netflix special.
Written by Coppola, Murray and Mitch Glazer and directed by Coppola, A Very Murray Christmas is billed as a “homage to the classic variety show featuring Bill Murray playing himself, as he worries no one will show up to his TV show due to a terrible snow storm in New York City”.
On Wednesday, Netflix released the first full trailer for the special, showcasing a suave-looking Murray and a bevy of famous co-stars including Chris Rock, George Clooney, Michael Cera, Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler, Jason Schwartzman and Miley Cyrus, who sings Let It Snow alongside Murray in the preview.
The French band Phoenix also make a brief appearance – Coppola is married to the band’s lead singer, Thomas Mars. Phoenix are set to feature on the special’s soundtrack, which is made up of Christmas classics.
Netflix premieres A Very Murray Christmas on 4 December. Meanwhile, the company’s first feature film, Beasts of No Nation, directed by True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga, debuts on Friday.
