A trolley, a fishing rod and a bag of cannabis: The weird things in Metro's lost property

A trolley, a fishing rod and a bag of cannabis are among the weird and wonderful items which have washed up in Metro's lost property.

Nexus has revealed the hundreds of items they've found left behind by passengers in the space of less than four months this year.

A pair of binoculars, a Koran and a painting were also handed in to the eclectic Metro store room.

Of course, there was plenty run of the mill stuff left behind too, including: 75 bank cards; 69 items of clothing and accessories; 57 sets of keys; 39 mobile phones; and 23 purses/wallets.

Staff also found a Newcastle United season ticket - although it remains unclear whether or not that was actually deliberately abandoned.

Four passengers managed to leave a bike behind and spare a moment's thought for the owners of three passports found left on the seats - let's hope they weren't on their way to the airport.

A Nexus spokesperson said: “The Tyne and Wear Metro carries 36 million passengers a year across 60 stations so there is a high volume of lost property.

“Metro is part of everyday life in our region so we expect to get a lot of items left on trains when we carry more than 100,000 passengers per day.

“All items which are not perishable are stored in a secure lost property office for three months so that people can come back and collect them.

“We see a diverse range of lost items, from the mundane to the more bizarre.

“Any illegal substances which are found discarded on Metro are destroyed.”
