A trail of colourful flower sculptures will fill Manchester city centre after lockdown

Manchester city centre will bloom back to life after lockdown - quite literally - with the return of the Manchester Flower Show.

The event last took place in 2019 and saw the streets filled with colourful living installations, including pop-up gardens and vintage cars overflowing with flowers.

CityCo and Manchester Business Improvement District (Manchester BID) have confirmed plans to bring back the spectacle in 2021.

Colourful displays, outdoor dining areas, floral statues, flower fountains, and foliage-covered lampposts and railings are all on the cards for this summer's event.

It's hoped that the beautiful living displays will help to bring a buzz back to the city centre and help businesses here to get back on their feet.

Parts of the city centre expected to take part include Cutting Room Square in Ancoats, First Street, the Greater Northern Warehouse, the Corn Exchange, the Arndale, King Street and many more.

The Manchester Flower and Produce Show started life in the 1950s in Platt Fields Park, before being revived in the city centre in 2018.

CityCo and Manchester BID now want to roll out the event right across Manchester and are encouraging local businesses to get involved, either by creating a new space in the public realm or by decorating the existing business space to 'green the streets'.

Those who would like to take part can find out more at cityco.com/event/the-manchester-flower-show and applications to participate are open until April 1.

The 2021 Manchester Flower Show will take place between Saturday May 29 and Sunday June 6.
